My Name is Mody Mariko, I’m an International Student from Senegal majoring in Economics and I have now been involved with the Economics Student Association for two years as a Junior Vice President of Philanthropic Affairs and Vice President of Internal Affairs this year.
As Junior Vice President of philanthropic Affairs, I have assisted the Vice President of Philanthropic affairs to carry out fundraising events on and off campus throughout the academic year. I was an intern at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees where I have dealt with booking large scale group trips which turned out to be a skill that of great value when I organized the ESA’s Annual New York Trip as Vice president of Internal Affairs. I changed the hotel for the first time in 10 years, and managed to gather to biggest turn out this trip has ever had which resulted in making it profitable for the association. I have experience with signing cheques and I already have signing authority.
I would like to build a larger ESA community through a better cohesive organization of inclusive events to our large student body with the help of the rest of the executive members and also create incentives to raise student engagement.
I would also like to work with the department on helping them with the selection of the best students for the BANK OF CANADA GOVERNOR’S CHALLENGE by creating a sub competition on campus to increase interest and participation.
I also plan to keep the monthly FREE pancake breakfast to facilitate networking between the execs, the professors, and the student association.
Lastly, I will try to introduce a polling system for students to be able to vote online next year in order to guarantee a better participation and more accurate representation of students at large.
Why you should vote for me
I am very passionate about economics and the well-being of students on campus. My observation skills have made me able to pin-point issues that need to be improved. I want to make sure that the Economic Student Association is efficient and produces quality services and activities that meet the needs of our very diverse student body.
I would be delighted to serve and represent Economics students on campus for a third year and keep the legacy going. thank for taking the time to read my platform and don’t forget VOTE Mody for President.
